In the United States, each state is using the Praxis series of test for their teacher licensure and certification process. The regulations, however, varies from state to state. The Praxis is a three tests series. The Educational Testing Service writes and administers these teacher certification examinations. The Praxis examinations are required before, during and after the trainings of the teachers.
The basic academic skills are being measured by the Praxis I test. Reading, writing and mathematics are the subjects covered in Praxis I, or the Pre-Professional Skills Test. Praxis II assesses many subject areas, with a different combination for each education major subject.
The assessment of the teachers’ skills in an actual classroom setting is covered in Praxis III. A trained Praxis III assessor does the interviews and the classroom observations. The states require the completion of this Praxis test of teachers for application and accreditation. Indeed, the different states in the United States rely in the Praxis Series for the licensing and decision-making of their education departments
